The breakdown

  • Wash and Go on 4C Hair
  • Defined Coils
  • Side Part

How it is done

  1. 12:16Set aside time — a proper wash and go takes one to two hours or more while you learn.
  2. 22:42Gather a moisturising shampoo, a slippy conditioner, a strong-hold gel, clips and a detangling brush.
  3. 35:31In the shower, gently separate the strands while you shampoo — 'divorce' the matted clumps.
  4. 45:58Shampoo a second time, continuing to separate the hair.
  5. 56:54Apply a conditioner with lots of slip and separate further.
  6. 68:19Finger-detangle in four sections (split again into two), then follow with a detangling brush.
  7. 79:14Twist each detangled section so it doesn't tangle again.
  8. 89:41Rinse the conditioner out completely and keep the hair soaking wet.
  9. 910:10Apply the gel section by section — ends first, then working up to the roots — until every strand is coated.
