This Privacy Policy explains how BLK GLO (“BLK GLO,” “we,” “us”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use our mobile app, website, and related services (the “Services”). BLK GLO is made by Solomon Dev Studio LLC, an Iowa company.
Information we collect
- Account information — your email address and, if you use Google or Apple sign-in, the basic profile those providers share (name, email, and a unique identifier).
- Hair profile — the answers you give during onboarding (hair type, porosity, density, style tags). They are stored with your account, and you can change them in Settings.
- Activity — looks you swipe, save, and view; products you add to your bag; stylist bookings and reviews you submit.
- Looks you post — the photo, caption, style and any stylist you tag. Before a photo leaves your phone the app re-encodes it, which removes its location (GPS) and other camera data.
- Comments, reports and blocks — comments you write, content you report, and people you block.
- Device and usage information — device type, operating system, app version, IP address, approximate location derived from it, and how you use the Services (pages and screens viewed, taps, searches, and time spent).
- Location you give us — a city or ZIP code you enter to find stylists near you.
- Payment data — purchases are processed by our payment provider (Stripe). We do not store full card numbers.
- Email sign-ups — if you enter your email address on our website, we store that address and the date you gave it.
- Photos you share on our website — the photos and the details you send with them (see “Photos shared on our website” below).
- Information from partners — Amazon reports purchases made through our links in aggregate (what sold, not who bought it), and businesses and public sources give us information about hair businesses.
Posting looks and community safety
A person reviews every look before it is public. Comments are checked automatically for links and blocked words, and a comment reported by two people is hidden until a moderator reviews it. Reports go to our moderators and are never shown to the person reported.
When you block someone, their looks and comments stop appearing for you. They are not told. You can undo a block in Settings → Blocked accounts.
You can delete a look at any time. Deleting your account deletes your looks, comments and their photos.
Photos shared on our website
You can send us hair photos from blkglo.com/share or blkglo.app/share without an account. Sharing is for adults 18 and over only, and the photos may only show people who are 18 or over.
When you share, we collect the photos, the style name, how you want to be credited (your social handle, your first name, or no name), and, if you add them, your city, your social handle and who did your hair. If you came from a promoter's link, we record that promoter's code. We count visitors to the page per promoter link.
To count each visitor once a day and to stop abuse, we keep a coded version (a hash) of your IP address that changes every day, use it only to count visits and limit how many photos can be sent, and delete it after two days. We do not collect location data: the page removes location and camera details from each photo before it is sent, and we refuse photos that still contain them.
After sharing, the page shows you a private link to add the looks to your BLK GLO profile. If you open it in the app while signed in, we link those looks to your account, and approved looks then say "Shared by" your profile name with a link to your profile, where people can follow you. If you don't, the looks are not linked to any account.
Your photos stay private until a person on our team approves them. Photos we approve may be shown in the BLK GLO app, on blkglo.com and blkglo.app, and on BLK GLO's social media accounts, credited the way you chose. Photos we do not approve are never published, and we delete their files 30 days after we decide not to use them.
You can ask us to remove a photo you shared at any time by emailing privacy@blkglo.com. We remove it from the app, our website and our own social media accounts within 2 business days of your request, and delete the photo files.
Stylist directory
The directory lists hair businesses. Some joined BLK GLO themselves; others are listed from public sources: Overture Maps (overturemaps.org, CDLA-Permissive-2.0), a public dataset of business places, and the business's own public pages, such as its booking page (for example Booksy, Fresha or Vagaro), its review profile or its Instagram. For those we show only public business information — the business name, address, phone number, website, booking link, social handle and the hair services it advertises — and mark the listing as unclaimed. We do not infer anything about a business, including whether it is Black-owned; only the business can tell us that.
A business can claim its listing, correct it, or ask us to remove it, from the listing in the app or by emailing the privacy address below. We act on removal requests.
When you book a stylist, that stylist sees your first name, your bookings with them and any note you add to a booking. They can keep their own private note about you (for example, how you like your hair done). Only that stylist and BLK GLO can read it. They never see your email address or phone number.
When you open a stylist's profile, or tap Book, Call or Website there, we count it for that stylist so they can see how many people visited. Each person counts once a day. The count does not include your name or account, and the stylist only sees totals. If you aren't signed in, we count you once a day using a coded version (a hash) of your IP address, and we erase that code the next day.
Photos a stylist adds to their own profile are theirs to share. They must have their client's permission to post a photo, and anyone shown can ask us to remove it by emailing the privacy address below.
Business verification
When someone claims a listing, we check they run it before calling it verified. We send a one-time code to the phone number or website domain already on the listing — never to a number the claimant types — and keep a record of whether the check passed. Where a state publishes licence data (Texas), we check the licence number the business gives us against it; elsewhere a reviewer checks the state board's own lookup page. We keep the result, the licence type and its expiry date.
Cookies & similar technologies
We use local storage in the app and essential cookies on our website to keep you signed in and remember your preferences. We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party advertising or analytics SDKs. You can control cookies in your browser settings; some features may not work without them.
How we use your information
We use the information we collect to operate and grow BLK GLO, including to:
- Provide and personalize the discovery feed, saved looks, recommendations, and the products and stylists we show you.
- Authenticate you and keep your account and the Services secure.
- Process purchases, bookings, and affiliate attribution.
- Send you service messages and, if you turn them on, occasional news and offers from BLK GLO (you can turn these off at any time).
- Analyze usage, research trends, and develop new products, features, and business lines.
- Create aggregated or de-identified information, which we may use and share for any purpose.
- Comply with law and enforce our terms.
Sign in with Google & Apple
If you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive a basic profile (name, email, and an identifier) to create and secure your account. Our use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. You can revoke access at any time in your Google or Apple account settings.
How we share information
We may share the information we collect with:
- Service providers who run the Services on our behalf — hosting, database, authentication and storage (Supabase), payments (Stripe), Stylist Pro subscriptions (Google Play, the App Store and RevenueCat, which tell us whether a stylist's subscription is active), email delivery, and push notifications.
- Amazon — when you tap a product, it opens on Amazon, which can see that the visit came from BLK GLO so a purchase can be credited to us. We do not send Amazon your name, email, or profile.
- Stylists and businesses you book with or interact with in the Services.
- Other parties with your consent or at your direction.
- A buyer or successor in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of all or part of our business.
- Legal and safety — when required by law or to protect rights, property, and safety.
We don't sell your information
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for targeted or cross-context behavioral advertising.
Data retention & security
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Services and meet legal obligations, then delete or anonymize it. We use industry-standard safeguards (including encryption in transit and access controls), though no method is 100% secure.
Deleting your account removes your account, profile, saves, posts, comments and uploaded photos. If you signed in with Apple, we also revoke BLK GLO's access to your Apple ID. Records we must keep by law, such as payment records, are kept only as long as required.
Your choices & rights
- Access, update, or delete your account information from in-app settings, or by emailing us.
- Manage notification preferences in the app, and unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in any message.
- Depending on where you live (e.g. California and other U.S. states, EEA/UK), you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port your data, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information and targeted advertising. Contact us to exercise them.
Children
BLK GLO is for adults 18 and over. It is not directed to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect their information; if you believe someone under 18 has an account, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be posted here with a new “Last updated” date.
