The breakdown

  • Feed-In Braids with Swirl Design
  • Long Braids
  • Edges Laid

How it is done

  1. 10:57Start on freshly washed, blow-dried hair; part down the middle and re-part with braiding gel for a sharp line.
  2. 21:26Do a few knotless braids along the back row to make a wider base so every cornrow fits.
  3. 32:32Pre-part each side into sections — wider in the middle, narrower above the ears — and comb the edges down.
  4. 43:00Make each cornrow's part slightly thinner toward the back, since the back of the head is smaller.
  5. 53:29Braid from the middle toward the ears so a shorter braid by the ear still lies flat.
  6. 64:25Keep the feed-in pieces small at the front; use bigger pieces for the ends.
  7. 75:21Braid your own hair a little, then place braiding hair between thumb and index, grab it with your hair, and keep crossing under the middle.
  8. 88:12Braid about a centimetre of natural hair before adding pieces to protect a thinner hairline, and grip both hairs firmly.
  9. 99:07To lengthen, add a matching piece behind the braid and keep braiding.
  10. 1010:37Dip the ends in hot water with an up-and-down motion so they stay straight.
